Our ASP Report™ is an in-depth analysis of the financial and operational status of the companies that make up the Application Service Provider (ASP) market. ASPs are firms that provide and manage software-based services, provided on a hosted basis, delivered across a wide area network, such as the Internet, for which they receive a recurring revenue stream. In other words, customers “rent” applications rather than “own” them. Detailed coverage includes corporate profiles, industry strategies and future plans.
The ASP industry has a large variety of players, something that is clearly reflected in the range of ASPs profiled in this report. The report breaks down the types of ASPs into four groups and then examines different companies under each category. These groups are: Pure Play ASPs, Vertical ASPs, Internet Business Services Providers (IBSPs), and CLEC ASPs. Chapter 4 of this Report examines 16 companies that not only meet this definition, but also are currently generating revenue from ASP operations and have substantial partnerships in place. Chapter 5 of this Report examines vertical ASPs and profiles three major players that have focused on disparate vertical markets: high technology, professional services, and health care. Chapter 6 of this Report examines 19 companies that are pursuing an IBS strategy. In Chapter 7 of this Report, we look at one CLEC, Winstar, which was a leader among CLECs with its ASP initiatives and has already started offering applications to their customers. The report also includes chapters on the ASP revolution, market forecasts, as well as a directory of over 300 ASPs.
