Los Angeles-based Xero Mobile business plan is to sell video advertising space through its own mobile communications devices to nearly 17.3 million college students. The plan works like this: Xero Mobile provides high-specification handsets at a better-than-competitive price to participating students and in return, students will agree to accept a relevant number of video ads on their handset each day. Each ad gives the student an opportunity to earn free mobile airtime. Prominent national advertisers will be able to send permission-based TV-style ads via the web to mobile devices. The company is publicly traded on the Over-The-Counter Pink Sheets under the symbol "XRMB".
